The Mid-State Amateur Radio Club

Franklin, Indiana

"Serving Central Indiana Communities for Twenty-Four Years"

Sunday, August 27, 2006

I've received an email from a gentleman in Bloomington. He wanted me to pass it along....

As a former SWL and Ham dating from the 1940's I sampled these hobbies when
I retired a few years ago. In 1991 I bought a new ICOM R-7000 scanner but
never have used it seriously. Recently we moved into smaller quarters and
I am trying to distribute old gear and papers while I am still able.

Last year I shipped the R-7000 to ICOM in Belleville, WA to repair a loose
solder joint and for alignment. I sure hate to leave this precision
instrument sitting idle to end up in an unappreciative yard sale. My hope
is to donate it to someone who can find it useful. Searching for scanner
clubs turns up many expired web sites suggesting that there is lagging
interest in the hobby. Your Bargersville QTH caught my eye and I hope that
you can direct me to a contact where I can publicize my offer.

I also have a less attractive ICOM-R1 hand-held receiver/scanner which has
some limitations.

I would greatly appreciate your input on this. Thank you.

Jim Randall, 2222 E Cape Cod Drive, Bloomingon, IN 47401

I have his phone number too, if anyone is interested.

Linda Harshbarger, KC9GCH has made an officer ballot for the 2006 Mid-State Amateur Radio Club elections. Since there were no contested offices, the ballot will not be mailed out. If anyone wants a copy for their reference or curiosity, they can download one here. Congratulations to our new officers, and best of luck in 2007!

Officers will officially be installed at our next meeting (and annual picnic), located at the Union Christian Church. The fun begins at 11:00 AM. Bring a covered dish, and prepare to have a good time, while we welcome our newest leaders into office.

NEW FEATURES!

Have you checked out the new calendar on-line?

Just click on calendar and find out what is happening with the club, with hamfests in the state, with nets and other groups in the area. If you have an event to post, send a message to the secretary at secretary@midstatehams.org. For those of you taking a turn at running our Sunday night net, let me know who will be net control and I'll add that info.

Other New Features

What else would you like to see added to our website? Matt and I are looking for suggestions so just tell us what else you'd like to see.
