Originally beginning 26 years ago as a small one-day community event, the White River Township FD (WRTFD) Strawberry Festival has grown into a two-day family friendly event with food, kids activities plus emergency and safety demonstrations. Its held every year at the Sugar Grove Elementary School, on the corner of Smith Valley Road and Berry Road in Greenwood. Highlights include a display of the department’s apparatus, finishing with a vehicle extrication demonstration by the WRTDFD including a mock airlift of the victims by the Indiana University Health LifeLine helicopter. Family friendly activities consist of face painting, a bounce house and more. Members of the Mid-State Amateur Radio Club participate every year on Saturday of the event with an amateur radio demonstration station for the public to stop by and find out about amateur radio. Check us out! In addition to strawberry shortcakes, the WRTFD Firefighters, EMT/Paramedics and staff will be grilling hamburgers, hotdogs, corn on the cob, rib-eye sandwiches and more. Entry is free of charge and meals or strawberry shortcakes are available for purchase with cash.
